Abstract:

Mucous hypersecretion is a predominant phenotype of the chronic airway inflammation.  Myristoylated alanine-rich C kinase substrate (MARCKS) is a key protein in the process of mucus secretion.  MARCKS can mediate the intracellular movement of airway secretory granules (SGs)and mucin (MUC) exocytosis through the interactions with protein kinase C (PKC, or other kinases), intracellular calcium concentration ([Ca2+]i), calmodulin (CaM), fibrous actin (F-actin), phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2)or heat shock protein (HSP)70.
