Abstract:

Erythropoietin (EPO) and erythropoietin receptor (EPOR) are the essential key cytokines in regulating the proliferation, differentiation and survival of erythroid progenitors. Recently, more and more studies have demonstrated that EPOR also exists in other type of cells in addition to normoblasts, suggesting that EPO and EPOR may have much more extensive biological functions. Here, we reviewed the intracellular signal transduction pathways activated by the EPO and the underlying mechanisms.
